Youth Keelboat Program - That's a Wrap!
Eighteen youth sailors from Hobart yacht clubs have today completed a five-week program in keelboat sailing. The aim of the program is to provide some guided experience in small keelboats with skills covered including symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers, headsail trim, sailing as a member of a crew and an introduction to match racing.
With 50:50 female and male participants, the program reflects the co-ed nature of youth sailing in Hobart and gave all sailors involved the confidence to take on any role in the boat.
The RYCT fleet of lively Elliott 6 keelboats is ideally suited to this type of program with the boats light enough to be handled by youth crews but fast enough to be exciting.
Thanks to Rohan Langford for his coaching and instructing, and Nick Rogers for his presentation on Match Racing.
Finally thanks to the participants and their families for once again supporting RYCT programs.
