From The Boardroom February 2023 Monthly Update

It’s been a hive of boating activity around the Club and Hobart more generally over the past month.

RYCT hosted the National 2.4mR Championships; congratulations to Matt Bugg for another win, with RYCT Vice Commodore Rowdy McCullum in second place.

Many RYCT members were also involved in the Australian Wooden Boat Festival; what a great event to showcase magnificent skills and passion for wooden boats.

Last weekend the State ILCA (Laser) Titles were held at RYCT with many of our OTB sailors competing. I had two great days on a rescue boat; not too many rescues but a great way to get up close and personal with the racing. Thanks to all our Race Officers and Volunteers without whom these events just couldn’t happen.

And many of our more junior OTB sailors competed at the State Optimist Titles hosted by Sandy Bay Sailing Club

We are currently assessing tenders for the Entry Jetty and A Arm refurbishment, with the expectation that this project will proceed this winter. Unfortunately, we did have to spend some money on temporary repairs to A Arm after two piles collapsed. Not Quite Just in Time Asset Management!

There have been a couple of fire incidents in marinas in Hobart recently, including one at RYCT, involving aerosol degreasers. Please be very careful with their use, especially in confined spaces like engine rooms.

For all our valued volunteers, please make a note of Thursday 13 April for our annual Thankyou function.

See you at the Club!
