From The Boardroom July 2022 Monthly Update

At its July meeting the board approved the revised Strategic Plan for the next three years. A members’ forum to discuss the plan will be organized soon.

At the 2022 AGM it was my pleasure to present the 141st Annual Report for The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania including the Financial Statements for the year ending 30 April 2022. You can read the report online in the Members section of the RYCT website or ask at Reception for a hard copy.

At the AGM three new Directors were elected; Stephen (Rowdy) McCullum as Vice Commodore, and David Bowker and Nick Hutton as general directors. Current directors Matthew Pilkington and Tony Cowley were reelected for another two years. They join ongoing directors Paul McCartney, Peter Martin, Ed Fader, Rob Gourlay, Phil Jackman (Rear Commodore), and myself as Commodore. Many thanks to outgoing directors Ross Mannering (Vice Commodore), Neil Shephard and Lucy Harris for their service to the Club.

Best wishes to four of our Off The Beach sailors (Indy Cooper (15), Adelaide O’Donoghue (15), Tim Jones (15) and Tom Fader (14) who are heading to Portugal to compete in the ICLA 4 (Laser 4.7) World Championships. All four are regular participants in off the beach regattas around the country as well as local OTB training and racing provided by RYCT. They were required to produce qualifying performances to be invited to the Portugal event, a major achievement given the number of ILCA 4s racing in Australia and the stiff competition for places.

A small but enthusiastic crowd recently enjoyed Christmas in July in a warm and cosy environment helped by the new gas heater in the back bar area. Thanks Santa for dropping by!

I look forward to our annual “At Home” event on 20 August. Come along for a fun Medieval night to meet your directors.

See you at the club!

Richard Bevan
